History
Bishop Carroll High School, originally established as Carroll High School in 1969, is located in Grass Field, Gbapa, Nimba County, Liberia. The school initially admitted only boys, but relocated to Yekepa in the early 1980s, expanding its enrollment to include both girls and boys pursuing high school diplomas. Named in honor of Francis Carroll and dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi, the school has earned a distinguished reputation for its strong emphasis on music and the arts, positioning itself as one of Liberia's premier Catholic educational institutions.
Initially overseen by white Christian Brothers who were dedicated to youth evangelism and the propagation of the Catholic faith, the school's leadership experienced a significant transition during Liberia's civil conflict, which led to the departure of these Brothers. In the aftermath, a succession of diverse Christian principals took on leadership roles, guiding the school through challenging times.
A significant milestone in the school's history was reached in October 2021, when Mr. P. Kohnkahn Cole, an esteemed alumnus, assumed the role of principal. His leadership marked the first time an alumnus had held this position, signifying a new chapter in the school's ongoing evolution. Under his guidance, Bishop Carroll High School continues to uphold its legacy of academic excellence, artistic achievement, and spiritual development, preparing students to contribute positively to their communities and beyond.
